We’ve just seen an amazing year for hair come to a close in 2015, and we’re excited to start some winter makeovers for women in 2016! As the weather gets colder the styles start heating up and today we’re going to explore some of our favourites for winter.
As winter greets us in Melbourne, we can counter it with a burst of bright colours in our hair. We’ve already mentioned the really interesting bright denim blues we’ve noticed around the celebs, and we’re seeing equally funky pinks, purples, and greens floating around.
One popular option if you’re not ready to go full colour (which takes pretty regular visits to the salon and often involves lightening your hair is to ombre with a bright colour. We’ve done heaps of colourful cascades that fade from your natural hair colour into one that stands a bit brighter.
You can also ombre without any crayon colours, and go from a brown to blonde or similar. Less funky, but still quite eye-catching. One thing we’ve seen often with ombres is emphasising a two-toned look by putting hair in a bun and separating the two colours with a hair pin.
An a-line or angular bob is one where the front is longer than the back. You can go as defined or as subtle as you want, and we’ve seen a lot of slim angular bobs just past shoulder length.
This is one step further than the Bingle Bob, popular last year. If the front layers are long enough, you can usually style an angular bob with pins and it looks great. You can also play around with asymmetrical angles by exaggerating your part.
Because it’s getting colder, many opt for the layered and messy look. Bobs can be a bit tricky with warmth –to keep their shape we generally thin out hair in the back.
We’ve seen a ton of mini bangs around, cutting across the forehead halfway down instead of at the eyebrows. One great thing about mini bangs is that they stay well out of your eyes.
Take it a step further with the top half of your hair up in a messy bun, to pull it away from your face altogether. This look goes great with some bold lipstick and dark eyeliner.
If you’ve got an oval face, this still looks great with long bangs as well. Because it’s getting colder, many want to wear their hair down for warmth, but still have the practicality of keeping it away from their face with a half up look. You can go a bit extra glam with this one by integrating plaits into the bun, and getting highlights to improve the shine and colour of the hair.
